The needle holder is normally held in the top position by the tension of the lift spring. The cylinder bar, which contains a latching cylinder for each needle holder, is driven in a vertical plane by push rods. This motion is identical to that of the needle bar on a normal tufting machine. When the pattern calls for a needle to sew, the latch pin which corresponds with that needle extends, and engages a notch in the back of the needle holder. This action couples the needle holder to the motion of the cylinder bar and the needle sews until the pattern control disengages the latch pin.
Yarn feed is effected by the action of a "tear drop" yarn clamping device which grips and pulls yarn from the creel on the downward stroke, but slips over the yarn on the upward stroke. This is necessary because only those needles that are sewing are consuming yarn. A conventional yarn feed roll arrangement cannot be used. The looper/knife arrangement is conventional, identical to that of a standard cut pile machine.

---------
ICN machine allows overtufting of previously tufted broadloom carpet.
Needle controi is what makes the difference.
The ICN machine needles are mounted in individual carriers, and the control system determines the precise placement of tufts in pattern form. Those needles not sewing
remain in the top position and do not penetrate the base fabric.
Economy and performance.
The ICN machine offers clear advantages over machines which employ buried-end techniques to produce patterns. The density is never less than that of the base fabric being overtufted; there are no half-gauge areas with poor density. And, since yarn is consumed only when a needle is sewing, the ICN machine eliminates the previous waste of large amounts of yarn being buried beneath the surface.
--------
Styling flexibility.
Certain types of designs such as widely-spaced dots, which were previously unattainable in high quality construction, are now a reality. The ICN machine is capable
of producing your pattern requirement in repeat sizes from 36"× 36" to 12' x 12' and larger. On products where base fabric color is common to more than one design, the ICN permits the addition of accent color and pattern as orders are received.
The ICN machine puts you in control.
Pattern control on the ICN machine is from a computer-driven solid state control system. Patterns are loaded into the system from a 5" floppy disc which is prepared on a separate pattern generation system. Stitch for stitch control is possible - the most complex of designs are made simple.
A beautiful finish.
From beginning to end, the ICN machine offers both the carpet mill and the carpet stylist the most versatile yet precise method of creative execution. And, of course,
products that are superior in appearance and performance.Products that are yours only with the ICN.
